Hailstorms In Ohio

     From 1990 through October of 2006, the damage done to property by hail in Ohio has totaled $474,426,000 (a small part of this includes damage done by winds which accompanied the hail).  Hail damage to crops during the 1990-2006 period has totaled $17,661,000 in the Buckeye State.  However, only $635,000 of this crop damage occurred from 2000-2006.  On the other hand, $458,197,000 of the property damage caused by hail in the past 17 years occurred in the years from 2000-2006.  Only $13,750,000 in property damage was caused by hail during the years from 1990-1999.

     Within the nearly seven years from January 1, 2000-October 31, 2006, eleven hailstorms produced $1,000,000 or more in property damage in Ohio.  Three of these storms struck Franklin County causing a combined total of $181,000,000 property damage.  Prior to the twenty-first century, Ohio had suffered only two hailstorms which caused $1,000,000 or more in property damage and only eight hailstorms causing a combined property/crop damage of $1,000,000 or more.

      The worst hailstorms on record in the State of Ohio, so far as property damage goes, are listed below.
